Newsweek Alleges Kutaragi Dropped the Ball on PS3 3rd Party Exclusives

In this third part of a very interesting 3-part “inside baseball” article, Newsweek alleges that Kutaragi dragged his feet on signing third party exclusives for the PS3 while Microsoft was aggressively pursuing exclusives from third parties such as EA (FIFA), Konami (Winning Eleven) Take-Two (Bioshock) and Ubisoft (the next Splinter Cell). Famously, Sony lost its Grand Theft Auto exclusive with Take-Two and Rockstar Games. And Assassin’s Creed, long assumed to be a PS3 exclusive, has now been confirmed to be under development for the XBox 360.

Sony has explained that the lack of force-feedback in its forth-coming PS3 controller was due to its inherent interference with the PS3 controller’s new tilt feature. However, both Immersion’s claims, and this YouTube video demonstrating the compatibility of force-feedback and tilt functionality in the 1999 Pelican controller for the PS1, suggest that Sony’s decision was less about technological constraints and more about its reluctance to pay royalties to Immersion after losing the force feedback patent case to Immersion.

Sony 3D Artist Fired for saying “Xbox 360 is better” than the PS3

Last month, Josh posted an article in Downinfront.tv, commenting on PS3 development. He revealed that at the time of his writing there was no final hardware development kits and that SOE got one of only five PS3 development kits delivered in the U.S. But probably what irritated his bosses the most was Robinson’s comments on the superiority of the Xbox 360
